Fall gigs!

More on these soon, but I’ve got a lineup of shows to tell you about for the fall of ’24!

Saturday Sept. 7, PorchFest Edmonds
My good buddy Charles Trafford and I will be holding down the fort at our friend Will’s house at 423 2nd Ave. N. Time TBD. Come enjoy music being played from dozens of houses and businesses in the lovely village of Edmonds. This was an idyllic afternoon last year and promises to be even better this year.

Saturday Oct. 23, C&P Coffee, West Seattle 7-9pm
Join me and the delightful singer-songwriter Lynette Hensley for an evening of original music, tasty covers, and, if I’m super lucky, some collaborative harmonies. Lynette usually plays with her uber-talented husband Larry Baumgartner and/or Hounds at Bay, so this will be a rare treat to hear her solo in the intimate confines of West Seattle’s premiere home for acoustic music. Oh yeah, I’ll be there playing as well!

Friday Nov 15, Couth Buzzard Books, Greenwood, 7-9pm
The Couth is back and better than ever. I am over the moon to share this bill with a long-time friend and the fellow who gave me my first guitar, Paul Haas. Paul is a singer-songwriter who tries to write with humor, anger, joy, and dread. Now and then he may succeed.

New tune: Rock Throne

Dialed the lyrics to this one up sitting 800 feet above the valley floor in the Heart Lake region of the Adirondacks this spring. Hope you enjoy it!

Upcoming shows!

I’m thrilled to be joining the lovely and talented Deb Seymour and Mark Ippolito for a songwriters in the round show in the lovely confines of the Couth Buzzard.

Saturday February 10, 7:30-9:30. The Couth is at 8310 Greenwood Ave. North, Seattle. Here’s the Facebook event.

One of my favorite area songwriters has lost the ability to perform his music due to MS. His music is too good to let it just slip away.

I met Bill Davie in 1988 or so as co-workers for a progressive political fundraising organization. While I’d known plenty of musicians at earlier times in my life, Bill was the first friend I had who wrote really good songs and performed them around town. It was decades before I picked up a guitar, but he’s been an inspiration all this time.

In recent years I’ve had the pleasure to play a few shows with Bill. Last summer when I asked him if he was interested in doing another, he told me he could no longer play his beloved guitar, but that “You should learn all my songs and play them.”

Talk about a lightbulb moment.

Of course, I’m no where near skilled or capable enough to learn all of Bill’s songs. He’s a facile picker with a distinct percussive style. His voice is sweet and sassy, and he scats like nobody’s business. But I do know a LOT of local performers who would be thrilled to learn one or two of his songs and carry the music forward. And I’m a pretty good organizer.

So, I approached Bill about producing a show of his friends and musical compatriots playing his songs. My mission was two-fold: 1) Raise some money for the MS Society in Bill’s honor, and 2) Keep this amazing body of music alive.

Bill approved the idea and helped me brainstorm a list of players and sort out some of the logistics. The result is this amazing collection of local and nationally-known performers who will be participating in Songs of Bill Davie:

  • Amy Read
  • Chris Bingham
  • Dan Maher
  • Dan Roberts
  • Ginny Reilly
  • Hal Brooks
  • Heidi Muller
  • Jim Page
  • Judy Kaplan
  • JW McClure
  • Kat Eggleston
  • Marjorie Richards
  • Mark Iler
  • Mark Kenney
  • Me
  • Miro Jugum
  • Orville Johnson
  • Steve Norris
  • Tom Noah

All the info you need is in the image above, of you can go to https://tinyurl.com/BillDavie or follow this QR code to our event website. I hope to hell you’ll join us March 10. It’s going to be a song- and life-affirming show like you don’t see very often. Thanks.

Me & Milo

We’re part of a monthly series organized by musician and West Seattleite Steve Norris that has raised thousands of dollars to support the food bank and take care of their community. Look up “community” in the dictionary and you’ll find a picture of the C&P, West Seattle’s home for acoustic music, mellow hanging out and good times.

Fall 2023 Shows!

I am 1000% psyched to be sharing the “stage” at the intimate Couth Buzzard (8310 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle 98103) with the legendary Milo Binder on Saturday Dec. 9 from 7:30-9:30 pm.

Milo’s 1990 debut cd captivated the music world in his then native LA. With songs called “sly, romantic, and childlike” by AllMusic, the recording featured The Band’s Garth Hudson and other session stars. Milo gravitated away from music while raising a family but jumped back into his amazing songwriting during the pandemic and is readying a new release. He’ll be playing songs from his debut and new material. You will fall in love with his music!

Milo and I will probably each do two 25-minute sets. The Couth is a great listening room where people come to actually listen! Join us for inventive word play, laugh out loud humor and getting your heart caught in your throat. No cover, tasty treats available.

I’m also doing a short set at the Songwriters in Seattle Showcase at the Couth on Sat. Nov. 4. Come on by and celebrate live, local, handcrafted songs. Hope to see you there!

PorchFest Edmonds Sept. 9, 2023

I’ll be playing a free patio show Saturday Sept 9, 2023 from 2:45-4:30 as part of PorchFest Edmonds.

The location for my set is 423 2nd Ave. N., Edmonds. PorchFest Edmonds is part of a rapidly growing movement of community-based music events where residents make their porches/yards available to host performers. The PorchFest movement started on the East Coast and now includes 100s of events across the country, including in Tacoma, Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood, and many others.

Come by and catch a few tunes, wander around to see my friends Steven Cristol, Larry and Lynette, Third Harbor and others play and enjoy the end of summer in Edmonds!

Summer Sounds with Abby K

I can’t wait to share the bill with the incomparable Abby K and play a handful of spanking brand new tunes and some deep cuts for you On July 28 at the Couth Buzzard! Abby is a master songwriter with a beautiful voice. She’ll be joined by Chris Klimecky, whose high tenor and lead guitar playing is a great fit.

The Couth Buzzard is pretty much my home field these days. It’s a cozy listening room with just the right amount of old Seattle funky. All ages, good drinks and grub. No cover. Hope you can join us!

New music video to celebrate my dad’s 100th

My father, Joseph Jerome Buchman, would have turned 100 today (6/15/23), but he died in 1968 before he made it to 50. I just made this little music video to celebrate his centennial and my efforts to figure out who he was through a shared love of photography. The tune is an original called Aperture & Speed. Thanks for checking it out!
