Articles

Since I retired in February of 2025 I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of writing featured for the Fretboard Journal, perhaps the world’s greatest guitar magazine! Here are some of my clips:

FJ59_Hear One, See One, Do One by Mike Buchman

This is a story about working with luthier Robbie O’Brien and his Lutherie Academy to hand-build an OM guitar. Every time I pick up the guitar I still can’t believe I built it myself (with Robbie’s considerable guidance and assistance).

FJ58_Fox Likes Clawhammer by Mike Buchman

This story profiles Leftover Salmon’s banjo wizard Andy Thorn, his second career serenading foxes outside his home in the Boulder hills, and Steve Gerritsen of Stone Banjo Company who hand-crafted Andy’s custom clawhammer banjo.

FJ57_Toucan Bass by Mike Buchman

This story looks at what happens to a beloved instrument when it’s owner passes on.

In the past I wrote for The Victory Review, No Depression and other publications. A few of those articles are cross posted here:
